Why should you vote for me?

Gandhi said, “Be the change you want to see in the world”. That is what I intended to do seven years ago when I first decided to get involved with the board of education!  I feel I have worked hard to live up to that motto. As an educator and parent there is nothing more important than an excellent education. It has been an enlightening and sometimes bumpy road but all the while worth it. I was elected in 2012, (served 2013-2105) lost a re-election bid in 2015, and was re-elected in 2016 to serve 2017-2019. One of my goals has been to see that Deptford Township Schools are competitive and enriching for all of our students!  This meant evaluating and expanding our curriculum and making it accessible for all learners.  I think with all of the administrative changes we are finally on the right path. I am super proud to have been a part of many positive initiatives during my time serving on the board education. We have implemented several Academy programs with nationally recognized curriculum, raised state test scores, revamped our administration chain of command, updated and revised policies, curriculum and transportation. We have added much needed improvements to our aging facilities. We added staff, a high school options program, partnership with RCSJ, expanded our school choice program, adjusted our grading scale, and have begun our Spartan Stadium Improvement Project. I spearheaded a resolution to our state legislators to oppose PARCC testing as graduation requirement. We have addressed housing issues and realigned our elementary schools to ensure students are attending their neighborhood schools while making transportation more efficient. I pride myself on being approachable to members of the community and staff. I will always try to have your back while still being objective in my duties.

  • I believe the board must maintain the trust of the community. In order to do that the board must be transparent, approachable, and communicate important information effectively. If elected, I will champion efforts to do just that. My big picture goals that I hope the board as a whole would be receptive to are:
  • addressing social emotional learning, enhancing special education to support all learners and to give appropriate staff support
  • to advocate for more trade based programs
  • to assure tax payer dollars enhance our academic and student experience while being fiscally responsible
  • involve our senior citizen population in school functions such as plays, concerts, sporting events, and band competitions
  • continuing to share and explain board decisions in an ethical manner.
  • Strive to provide the best education to all learners

I have the benefit of bringing my experience as well as many different perspectives as a mommy and a teacher to better our schools!  I have served on each and every committee of the board at various times. I can promise I will continue to give everything I have to improve our schools in Deptford Township!  I am focused, driven, goal oriented, determined and excited to serve our schools and community! Community, Commitment, Collaboration!
